Dongtan Reservation Area for Migrants

Chongming Island has got temperate and humid climate, and four distinct seasons. The reservation area on this island abounds in various wild birds. During the course of migrating, the migrants often stop to rest on Dongtan; sometimes even such rare birds as red-crowned cranes rest there. In 1983, an agreement “China and Japan Protect Migrants” was signed in Beijing. According to the agreement, among the 277 kinds of migrants, there are 132 kinds of birds, such as green egrets, white egrets and swans, whose home is Chongming Island.
